Deborah Wheeler, Ph.D.

Deborah Wheeler is a Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Internet Studies, and a Lecturer in the Jackson School of International Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Civilization, and Fellow at the Center for Internet Studies at the University of Washington, and at the Oxford Internet Institute. Dr. Wheeler has done development work and consulting with the Zayn al-Sharaf Institute for Development and the United Nations Development Program in Jordan. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 1993 and has published widely in a variety of contexts on E-Commerce, Conflict Resolution, the Arab-Israeli Conflict, and issues of Technology, Society and Religion. Dr. Wheeler was a Research Scholar at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem in 1990, she received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1991, received a Fulbright-Hayes Research Fellowship for Kuwait in 1996 where she was also a visiting professor of Political Science at Kuwait University, was a Research Fellow at the American Institute for Maghreb Studies in Tunisia, an Associate Scholar at the American Center for Oriental Research in Jordan, and has held a number of positions including visiting professorships at Earlham College, University of the South, Pennsylvania State University. She has contributed to a number of national and international conferences and symposia on the contemporary Middle East and Internet Studies. Dr. Wheeler has lectured and conducted research widely in the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe including invited lectures in Syria, Kuwait, Great Britain, Israel, Egypt, Norway, and Bahrain.
